4 states will have an increase in the water bill; see which ones!

Four Brazilian states have recently revealed readjustments in the price of account of water, and in some of them the difference is already enough in this month of January. The states that will have the value of the water bill increased are: Bahia, Ceará, Minas Gerais and Roraima.

The various reasons for the increases were justified by the responsible companies. See the list below for the concessionaires' allegations and the readjustment values.

These states will see an increase in their water bill:

• Bahia: Readjustment of 11.73%, with the value of the residential tariff rising to R$ 32.21. According to the concessionaire responsible for offering water, the account has been outdated since 2021, when the readjustment was lower, 9.15%;
• Ceará: Readjustment of 3.55% from January 28th. There was no comment on the reason used to define the amount of the increase;
• Minas Gerais: Being the second largest increase on this list, the state will undergo a 15.7% readjustment in the water bill. Even with this considerably high value, the company responsible for the service did not offer any justification, having only announced the value of the readjustment;

• Roraima: To date, this is the largest increase announced. In the state of Roraima, water bills will increase by 25%, with the collection fee amounting to R$ 29.79. According to Companhia de Águas e Esgotos de Roraima, this high value is justified because no readjustments were made since 2017, and now the value considered is the variation of the National Consumer Price Index (INPC) between 2018 and 2022.

Although only these states have manifested the increases so far, the entire Brazilian population can prepare, since the tendency is for the other federative entities to express the readjustments in the water bill during 2023. Last year, for example, the state of São Paulo revealed the increase in these values ​​only in May. Thus, it is possible that other states will announce the measures soon as well.
