Light at the end of the tunnel: government announces reduction in gasoline and energy prices

It's been a while since the accounts at the end of the month cause a headache for Brazilians. It's hard to think of something that isn't exorbitantly priced in the country. Fortunately, it seems that this reality will undergo some changes.

This is because the federal government has been putting into practice some measures that can guarantee reductions of around 20% in the value of energy bills and fuels.

What made prices jump in Brazil?

In fact, this is the question that everyone wants to answer, but no one has a correct answer. In recent years, several events have influenced rising prices in Brazil, including the pandemic. Thus, inflation in the country reached giant levels, which influenced various sectors of the economy.

Energy and fuels were two sectors heavily impacted, as in addition to the crisis, they also suffered for other particular reasons. The lack of rain, for example, was a major reason for the rise in electricity bills, which even used the highest flags.

Government promises cuts in bills

With the return to normality, some prices have already started to show certain drops, and everything indicates that this will continue for electricity and gasoline.

Recently, it was announced that energy would return to the green flag, that is, without the addition of fees for energy consumption. This is already a relief for Brazilians who were worried at the end of the month. In addition, the government foresees other reductions in this account, with:

  • Contribution from Eletrobrás;
  • Return of credits to consumers;
  • 17% ceiling for ICMS.

According to this measure, fuel will likely undergo the following reductions:

  • A liter of gasoline will go from R$7.39 to R$5.84;
  • Ethanol will reduce from R$4.87 to R$4.57;
  • Diesel will go from R$7.68 to R$7.55;
  • The price of LPG will drop from R$112.70 to R$110.07.
