In August 1949, Life magazine ran a headline on its cover saying, "Jackson Pollock: Is He America's Greatest Living Artist?" Already known in the New York art world, Pollock was now nationally known as the first American celebrity in the world of fine arts and his bold and radical style of painting dictated the direction of art Modern. But the torments that plagued Pollock throughout his life and that helped him early in his career to create his original art began to afflict him more and more. Struggling against himself, Pollock then entered a decaying spiral that caused him to destroy his marriage, his promising career and his own life.
