Growing lemons in a mug is an enchanting way to bring nature into your home, in addition to perfuming the room with the delicious citrus aroma.
With these simple tips, you will be able to enjoy the growth of these small seedlings and enjoy the benefits of having such a special plant in a small space.
Step by step
Remove the seeds from about 5 to 10 healthy, intact lemons.
Soak the seeds in a mug of clean water for about an hour.
Watch which seeds sink and which float in the water, selecting the ones that sink to the bottom (the “good ones”) for planting.
Drain excess water from seeds and remove the thin skin around them with tweezers (to promote germination).
Put the seeds back in clean water and wait a few days for germination.
Prepare the mug with holes in the bottom for drainage and place a layer of moist earth inside it.
Arrange the seeds in circles in the soil layer, covering most of the mug with soil.
Cover the seeds with more soil, ensuring protection and access to moisture to germinate.
Decorate the mug with small stones or gravel, helping to retain moisture.
After 9 to 15 days, the first seedlings will appear; water them every morning to promote healthy growth.
