Currently, Social Security uses the Referential Rate to measure the effect of inflation over the years, and then apply the updates for each period to the FGTS. However, some economists and mathematicians claim that this method is not enough for there to be a real accounting about the increase in inflation.
Thus, the alternative would be to use another index that the Central Bank determines, which is the Extended National Consumer Price Index. According to a group of specialists, this would be one of the ways to break with the disparities between the real growth of inflation and what Brazilians receive from IPCA.
It is even possible to file a lawsuit and request a review of amounts received at least since 1999. In these cases, there is even a possibility for the citizen to obtain a considerable amount of revision. One that can even reach R$ 10 thousand.
All workers who have been in formal employment since 1999 can apply for a fund review. If approved, it is possible that he or she will receive up to R$ 10,000 in FGTS.
In any case, the review of values based on the IPCA is still a decision of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). Once there is the expected approval, the professional will receive according to the new parameters.
Furthermore, it is worth noting that all processes that include the review are under analysis by the STF. In fact, there is still no forecast for this change in the index, although the demand for this change is growing. Therefore, it only remains for the citizen to wait for the decision of the Supreme Court to have the money in hand.
