A doorman at Asa Sul, in Brasília, had an unusual experience in his work environment last Tuesday, the 14th. That's because he found a Corn Snake in Brasilia, more precisely in the courtyard of a building.
The Environmental Police are working on the assumption that the animal ran away from its creator, who may be responsible for international animal trafficking.

After capture, the snake went to the Wild Animal Triage Center, or CETAS, at Ibama. In this case, the animal is not used to the Brazilian ecosystem and, therefore, cannot go to nature. Therefore, the best option is to keep it in a monitoring area, such as accredited zoos or serpentariums.
Since the animal is not common in Brazil, the only possibility that it came here is through international animal trafficking. Thus, the Environmental Police is now investigating the origin of the snake to track down the creator and also the criminal. After identification, the person responsible for the trafficking will respond in court for the act.
Here in Brazil, the penalty for international trafficking in wild animals involves imprisonment from six months to one year, in addition to a fine. However, there is a proposal for this penalty to increase and imprisonment for at least three to eight years, in addition to fines. Currently, the fine is between R$ 500 and R$ 5,000.
Meet Corn Snake
The name Corn Snake refers to the common environment of these snakes, which are the cornfields in the U.S. According to history, the serpent was given this name by colonizers in the 18th century. Furthermore, it can appear in deciduous forests or rocky slopes.
This species can live between 15 and 20 years and reach a maximum length of 1.5 meters. Typically, they have red and yellow undertones to their skin, but there are over 20 different color classifications. Despite being a great predator of small animals, such as rats, this snake has no functional venom.
