sleep to live

Sleep is just as important as food, and even more urgent than thirst. This biological aspect remains largely unknown and disturbing. Do all living beings sleep? It may seem so, but some sleep only a few seconds at a time, while others spend more than 90% of their lives in a state of unconsciousness, and some animals even dream.

There are amazing sleep practices, shrews can't sleep more than three or four hours or starve to death. That's why they fight so hard for every piece of food! Swifts fly without ever stopping or resting. They eat or smooth in the air, mate in the air and sleep flying... A six-eyed spider can sit still for months, but it's always ready to hunt as soon as its prey appears. […] Dolphins talk in their sleep and, like whales, they have to remember to breathe, how do they do it?

Few animals sleep eight hours straight, eyes closed, in the same place, almost always at night. But of course sleep is not only important for rest, we grow, prevent disease, synchronize neurons and reinforce memory when our brain is in REM mode…
