The vehicles will help Coca-Cola reduce carbon emissions by up to 46.2% by 2023. This is another step in the company's environmental sustainability project.
“The company is taking big steps towards its environmental sustainability goals by adding Volvo VNR electric trucks to its range. fleet to serve its beverage customers in the Greater Montreal area,” said Peter Voorhoeve, president of Volvo Trucks North America North.
According to Todd Parsons, CEO of Coca-Cola Canada Bottling, “fleet electrification is a key component of the plan to reduce direct carbon emissions”. “We recognize that we have a responsibility to effectively manage our environmental impact and we are working on that across our fleet,” he underlined.
The vehicles purchased by the company have six batteries and can travel up to 440 km on a single charge. The trucks currently make 150 km round-trip routes a day between the company's headquarters and customers in Montreal.
Coca-Cola Canada Bottling is also investing in loaders at its distribution center. This will help the fleet to always be supplied, in addition to serving as a meeting point whenever drivers need cargo.
The entire infrastructure is expected to be delivered soon, in June this year.
Currently, Coca-Cola Bottling uses electric vehicles in some light services in the greater Montreal area. In addition, all trucks used by the company that were manufactured after 2012 run on biofuel.
In all, there are almost 1,500 tons of carbon dioxide saved with these shares of the company.
