The RG has been in the same form for some time now: a green document with a photo, fingerprint and some information. The biggest change undergone by this document in recent years was the addition of the CPF through the RG. However, the new RG has other relevant information in the document and also has new features.
The new RG has a unique number and, therefore, brings together in just one document various information such as RG, CPF, PIS/Pasep and CNH. In addition, the new RG will also have the digital version, which has an authentication QR Code and MRZ code. Finally, it will also be possible to add health information such as blood type, organ donor, etc. Despite the changes, the old document will still be valid for up to 10 years (2032) for Brazilians under 60.
To request the new document, you must go to a specialized body such as the Secretariat of Public Security or Poupatempo. With your Birth or Marriage Certificate in hand, you can request the new RG. You will then receive information about the date and time you must attend to pick up your document.
You are entitled to a printed RG (plastic card or authenticated sheet) and also to a digital RG. Remember that you can also request this service digitally. For this, it is essential that you have registered biometrics and access to the DNI (National Identity Document) application. In this way, citizens will be able to schedule a time to request their new RG without leaving home.
