The complete list has 39 banks that reached assets above US$ 100 billion. The first two places on the list are made up of US banks. Are they the Capital One, which leads the ranking with a ROE of 20.4%, followed by the bank Ally Financial, with ROE of 19.3%.
In third place, and first Brazilian bank on the list, is Santander, with 18.9%. Until 2017, this bank ranked fourth among Brazilians in the Economatica list. Its equity rate, as of 2016, grew from 9.7% to 18.9% in December 2021.
The other three major Brazilian banks on the list – Bank of Brazil, Itaú Unibanco It is Bradesco – had a significant drop in ROE over the years. This occurred while the US banks – Capital One, Ally Financial, JPMorgan, SBV Financial – and the Brazilian Santander saw a significant increase compared to 2010.
Brazilians had, between 2016 and 2019, a sequence of growth that ended up being interrupted by the results of 2020. However, in relation to the profitability of that year, these banks managed, now in 2021, to acquire a recovery equivalent to the median of 4.4 points.
