What is “Special Retirement” and who is it for?

Special Retirement is one of the best forms of retirement in Brazil and is aimed largely at workers who carry out unhealthy activities. Thus, those who are exposed to harmful agents that will put their health at risk (chemical, physical and biological) have this right. See below some characteristics of this form of retirement.

What is “Special Retirement” and who is it for?

Granted by the INSS, this type of retirement is intended for those workers who, because of their job, are exposed to some unhealthy conditions that can be harmful to health or to dangerous conditions that pose a risk of death for the employee.

Therefore, if the agents that are harmful are very large, the mandatory contribution time for this worker to retire will be smaller, and so proportionally.

Difference between special and common retirement

Retirement considered common (also called “contribution time”) requires men to contribute for 35 years and women for 30 years. However, in special retirement, the contribution time is reduced to 25 years worked in an environment that is considered unhealthy (valid for men and women).

What is the minimum age for Special Retirement?

After a guarantee of 180 months of contribution, for the highest degree of unhealthy conditions, the minimum age required to retire is 55 years. As for the moderate degree, it is 58 years, and for the minimum, 60 years.

What are the harmful agents that fall under the requirement?

  • physical agents

It is considered when the employee has a function that exposes him to noise above the limit, vibrations, very high temperatures and pressures or very low temperatures, in addition to ionizing radiation and moisture. For example, most people exposed to noise are those who work in industries. For this, these risks are considered above the bearable limits, known by law as quantitative.

  • chemical agents

It considers those who are exposed to chemical products that can harm the health of the worker. For example, functions such as: gas station attendant, mechanic, oil tanker, aeronauts, welder, metallurgist, technician, industry engineer and others.

In addition, it will also depend on how exposed this employee is, varying according to what the law calls qualitative, considering the simple presence at work where there are chemical agents as an activity Special.

  • Biological agents

It is considered when the worker can be exposed to: viruses, fungi and other organisms, bacteria, micro-organisms and parasites.

Like chemical agents, such agents are considered qualitative and are seen as a special activity. This is the case, for example, of professions such as doctors, nurses, nursing technicians, veterinarians and garbage collectors.
