The National High School Examination (And either) allows the student to enter foreign universities. 35 institutions in Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Portugal and France accept Enem scores in their selection processes. Through Enem, 1,200 Brazilians are currently studying abroad.
The universities sign cooperation agreements with the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep), associated with the Ministry of Education (MEC), in which they themselves define their cut-off marks and in which Inep certifies the candidate's performance in the Enem.

Enem is the second largest exam in the world in number of candidates, after the Chinese process, and is becoming internationally recognized. Portugal is the main destination for Brazilian students, due to the language, the relatively low cut-off points, and the costs of staying in the country.
As each institution defines its criteria, it is necessary for the candidate to find out about deadlines and documentation on the websites of the institutions themselves. In France, for example, it is common for universities to require that the student has already entered a Brazilian university. In others, letters of recommendation and language proficiency may be required.
