In 1990, one of humanity's most ambitious projects emerged: The Genome Project, an international consortium that gathered robust investment in research. Here, the main objective was to be able to determine the total sequence of human DNA, which, until today, has not happened.
After all, why the human genome was it ever fully deciphered?

Certainly, genomic medicine was a complete revolution in human history and much of that is certainly due to the Genome Project. This is because it was through this initiative that it was possible to decipher a large majority of human DNA. For example, in 2003, the project claimed to have completed the human genome, but it was about 8% short.
Still, this mark allowed scientists to start a medicine that was personalized. With that, we say that it began to be possible to map with more precision the tendency of hereditary diseases, in addition to being able to recognize our personal origins and as a human species.
In 2021 there was the announcement of a new attempt to complete the human genome through a new consortium. That would be the Telometer-to-Telometer consortium that managed to go beyond that missing 8%. However, they also had problems with some inaccessible places in the DNA human, but now with a more specific understanding of what is missing.
What is missing to decipher the human genome?
After the findings of the new consortium, an understanding was created in the scientific community that each person has an entirely unique DNA. This means that it is impossible to establish a precise standard that serves all of humanity. Instead, it is necessary to investigate the genome individually.
This opens up even more the prospect of the need for personalized medicine that can recognize the potential for disease in our DNA. Thus, it would be possible to create previous treatments that prevent the development of cancer cells, for example. Everything indicates that medicine is moving towards this point, which can greatly improve people's health.
