In more recent expeditions, a group of scientists located about 38 new skeletons on the banks of Roopkund, and, of course, collected genetic samples from the remains.
When analyzing the samples collected, the scientists came across something intriguing: of the 38 individuals, 23 were of Indian origin, 14 came from the Mediterranean and one from Southeast Asia.
In the research, which had its results published in the journal Nature Communications, there were Specialists of the caliber of David Reich, professor at the School of Medicine at the University of Harvard.

Why did these people die right there?
The first analyzes carried out in the “lake of skeletons” brought to light questions related to the high number of bodies found on the banks of the body of water.
However, now, with the origins of these dead people being discovered, doubts about the reasons that led those people to the lake also appear.
To date, there is not even one study or theory official scientific evidence that provides at least presumptive answers to these questions. However, theories, speculations and rumors are there to instigate our reasoning.
Some natives and experts on the cultures that dominated the Himalayas over the centuries suggest that Roopkund Lake was once an important pilgrimage site.
It is believed that its location and its waters had some different spiritual energy, as well as a connection with ancient entities and gods.
Looking at it from this side, it is easy to conjecture that these people traveled thousands of kilometers in search of this supposed sacred lake. Upon arriving at the place, already exhausted and without resources, the travelers simply waited for death.
In any case, it is certain that the surroundings of the lake, where human remains were found in piles, offered these travelers a last glimpse of life on this plane.
It is worth noting that the Himalayan region is inhospitable to humans for several reasons, from the climate to the scarcity of resources and the presence of some potentially dangerous wild animals.
