Anita took on several battles and showed great courage in all of them. She was so brave that she even acted as a soldier, participating in fights. She was the wife of Giuseppe Garibaldi, an Italian who fought, among other wars, in the Farroupilha Revolution or Farrapos Revolt, an attempt at independence (separatism) from southern Brazil. For being brave and courageous, she received the title of “heroine of both worlds”, an important recognition for her struggle for freedom. Anita was born in Laguna, in the state of Santa Catarina, in 1821, and died in Ravena, Italy, in 1849.
