NAME:
While the fair was taking place in that small town, there was a very unhappy tomato.
He knew that up ahead, in a beautiful square, many boys were playing football enthusiastically. But the poor tomato had an immense desire to also have someone to play with him, smile at him, live with him. Maybe he already knew that tomatoes have no friends, except, of course, other tomatoes. All this was making him very sad.
One night, when all the fruits and vegetables had been collected from their tents, the little tomato decided to fix his situation and went in search of new friends. He passed by a little red flower as his color and said:
– Hello beautiful flower! Want to be my friend?
And the flower, very shy seeing that tomato beside her, almost didn't know what to say at that moment. Her petals trembled and he thought it best to pretend he couldn't speak. Very disappointed the tomato went on its way. On a bend he found two very strange figures talking and decided to join in the conversation.
- Hi. Would you like to be my friends?
The frog, wearing a strange outfit, analyzed that fragile little tomato and said:
– We don't know you and you're just a horrible tomato! Do you think we would be friends with a tomato?
– Sorry, I thought… And before the tomato could explain itself, the beetle with a huge hat interrupted:
– Since when do tomatoes think? And besides, there's no place for you here! Goodbye. And they left, in a place far away, where the tomato would never find them.
Poor tomato! He felt more and more alone. But he didn't give up on finding someone who could be his real friend. However, as she stopped under a tree, she heard voices. She looked to her right side and saw two children laughing. Of what, he didn't know.
- I already know! I'll ask them why they laugh so much and maybe they like me.
- Hi. Can I know what they're laughing about?
The children were not amused now, they were scared of what was happening.
– A talking ball? He asked the girl who was called Lia.
– É. Looks like she said something. Manuel replied.
- Yes I speak. But… I'm not a ball.
The children looked at each other and continued to laugh without stopping. The tomato was bothered by this and tried only one more time:
- It's ok! You can keep laughing if you want, but know that I just wanted to be friends with you. I wanted so much. But I saw that you didn't like me at all and that's why I'm leaving.
Upon hearing this, Lia called him:
– Hey, wait! We laughed because you said it wasn't a ball.
– Yeah, and I'm not a ball. I'm a tomato.
The laughter was repeated again. The tomato slowly withdrew, unnoticed. At that moment, he only thought of the boys who played ball in that little square near the fair and the way they played with the ball on the lawn. He even thought that if those boys wanted him to be a ball, he would accept that. Little by little, he realized that everyone was running away just because he was a tomato. They probably didn't think it was worth it to be friends with someone so red, small and who was also called tomato. And I only thought about being a ball now. Those boys' ball. And then he would have friends. He passed in front of the square, where twelve boys were happily playing ball. He stood for hours watching the game. Suddenly, the ball that was a small ball, half orange, ended up in the middle of the street. At that moment a car came at high speed and went over the ball. Arthur, the owner of the ball, was dismayed by the accident and even felt like crying. Then the game ended. Without the ball, it would be impossible to continue a football game. The tomato that wanted to be a ball in order to have friends, changed its mind immediately. I didn't want to be crushed by a car, or kicked hard by a boy. He realized that he couldn't be friends with someone who kicked him. So he thought the best thing to do was go back to the fair. There he would have friends like him: red, round and what's better, with his same name.
