Carnival Project for 1st to 5th year of Elementary School

this wonderful carnival project was prepared by professor Valéria, from the blog Teaching with Affection.

Carnival in Brazil is one of the most traditional festivals in the world and since childhood, children listen, experience and enjoy the experience of this culture, even if it is through TV, stories or interacting in playful social contexts on the street, or on the school.

For this reason, we propose a recreational action about carnival in the classroom, meeting the interests of children, respecting their needs, curiosities and ideas.

Main goal:

Bring the child the opportunity to get to know the carnival, how it is organized, as well as the importance and value of this tradition in the culture of its people, Brazil and the world, through the attractive manifestations that the party itself disposes.

Details of actions:

  • Explanation about the emergence of carnival and its evolution;
  • Presentation of photos of the evolution of the carnival party;
  • Free collage and drawing activities;
  • Making of masks;
  • Presentation of videos of how the party is in different states;
  • Creation of murals on the theme;
  • Artistic presentations by students;
  • Presentation of photos of students' work;
  • Works on Carnival marchinhas.

Assessment:

  • Exhibition of work developed during the weeks;
  • Carnival Ball.

Carnival Project

INTRODUCTION

When we think of Brazil or the Brazilian people, the image of a happy and dancing people almost always comes to us. Carnival is a great example of this. It is a popular manifestation that occurs in different ways in various regions of Brazil, depending on the historical and sociocultural context of each place.
Interweaving the influences of black Africans, indigenous peoples, natives and colonizing Europeans, Brazilian culture resulted in a great diversity and richness of manifestations.

JUSTIFICATION

Brazil is a culturally rich country, however, what we know about this culture is limited to what we live on a daily basis and what the TV often shows us loose information, images that are very far from our reality or imprint commercial.
With this in mind, we intend, in this work, to provide activities that increase children's knowledge about the carnival in Brazil, taking into account its influences and making a temporal parallel to the ancient carnivals until today.
