this wonderful carnival project was prepared by professor Valéria, from the blog Teaching with Affection.
Carnival in Brazil is one of the most traditional festivals in the world and since childhood, children listen, experience and enjoy the experience of this culture, even if it is through TV, stories or interacting in playful social contexts on the street, or on the school.
For this reason, we propose a recreational action about carnival in the classroom, meeting the interests of children, respecting their needs, curiosities and ideas.
Bring the child the opportunity to get to know the carnival, how it is organized, as well as the importance and value of this tradition in the culture of its people, Brazil and the world, through the attractive manifestations that the party itself disposes.

Carnival is the popular festival that best characterizes the Brazilian soul, hence the genius Jorge Amado called one of his most famous novels “País do Carnaval! Where so well delineates the influence of this festival in the socio-cultural and historical formation of our people. These four days of celebration that takes place from north to south of the country have mobilized entire cities and infected millions of people from the most diverse social classes. During this period, the most diverse cultural, secular and folkloric manifestations emerge in a perfect symbiosis, in which rhythms, rites, creeds, ideologies, races and colors mix so harmoniously that they form a unity of diversity so rich and magnificent that only a leaning, a look and a reflection on this so much. rich and enviable cultural plurality linked by the subjects of knowledge who make the school, could explain the phenomenon, because it touches directly for being profoundly significant for their life stories and all prior knowledge that each of these subjects acquired cognitively, affectively and socially throughout of your life.
Working with the carnival theme provides students with greater interaction with Brazilian culture, its history, fun and carnival music. With this theme “Foliando no Carnaval” it is possible to work in an interdisciplinary way, in which students will interact in a context of concepts, tastes and customs about this popular festival. It also offers students conditions to learn more about our customs and traditions, based on the history of carnival. At the same time, it motivates and involves students and teachers and encourages the school community to actively participate in the school's projects.
Promote integration between the school and local community, offering conditions to get to know our people better customs, making them aware of various aspects of carnival, promoting a carnival party that involves the entire the school.
When we think of Brazil or the Brazilian people, the image of a happy and dancing people almost always comes to us. Carnival is a great example of this. It is a popular manifestation that occurs in different ways in various regions of Brazil, depending on the historical and sociocultural context of each place.
Interweaving the influences of black Africans, indigenous peoples, natives and colonizing Europeans, Brazilian culture resulted in a great diversity and richness of manifestations.
Brazil is a culturally rich country, however, what we know about this culture is limited to what we live on a daily basis and what the TV often shows us loose information, images that are very far from our reality or imprint commercial.
With this in mind, we intend, in this work, to provide activities that increase children's knowledge about the carnival in Brazil, taking into account its influences and making a temporal parallel to the ancient carnivals until today.
