So Joseph also went from the city of Nazareth of Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem, the city of David, because he belonged to the house and lineage of David. He went to enlist, with Maria, who was betrothed to him in marriage and expecting a child.
While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
There were shepherds who were in the fields nearby and during the night they took care of their flocks. And it came to pass that an angel of the Lord appeared unto them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them; and they were terrified.
But the angel told them, “Don't be afraid. I am bringing glad tidings of great joy to you, who are for all the people: Today, in the city of David, the Savior is born, who is Christ the Lord. This will serve as a sign for you: you will find the baby wrapped in cloth and lying in a manger”.
Suddenly, a great multitude of the heavenly army appeared with the angel, praising God and saying:
"Glory to god in the highest,
and peace on earth to men
to which he grants
your favor”.
